Zonta Madison Foundation’s History Supporting DAIS

In 2005-06, Zonta Madison Foundation, Inc. provided $5,000 in seed money to partially fund a feasibility study for a new shelter facility for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS).  In 2014, DAIS moved from its old location to the new shelter at 2012 Fordem Ave., Madison, WI. The shelter tripled the resident capacity which provided a state of the art facility to support survivors of domestic violence. Zonta Club of Madison was the first community organization to pledge to the campaign. In May of 2016, Zonta Madison’s Honor Project reached a five year financial goal of raising $50,000 to fund a bedroom suite at the new Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) shelter.

Zonta Club of Madison and Zonta Madison Foundation have supported DAIS through fund raising, sponsorships, domestic violence advocacy and awareness events, grants, and donation of shelter supplies. In addition Zontians have volunteered hundreds of hours of service: Cooking monthly community dinners, Holiday gift wrapping, Kitchen cleaning, Sorting and organizing in-kind shelter donations,  Curtain making, Organizing resident bingo with donated prizes, and Garden Maintenance. Zonta member Tamara Hagen served on the DAIS Board of Directors.
